Sitting on my balcony picked up my tablet and stylist. I have determined to once again begin writing digitally.
This poem is a quick quip on my struggle over to write digitally using a stylist and tablet, or good ol’ fashion pen and paper. Every six months, I switch to one or the other. I like the nostalgia of the old, but like the convenience of the new.
To Paper or Not to Paper
To paper or not to paper, That's yet to be seen. Which is nobler: pen to paper, stylist to screen? Ah, but the weight of the pen in hand no stylist can match. The drag of paper against pen a smooth screen lacks. Though lost, lost, is written paper to wet, mold, and rot; burried in notebooks' leaves piled high, shelv'd, and forgot. Digital stands near forever, save the lights stay on; "Syncable across devices"; depths to search upon. Still lost, lost is faux ink on screen, clouded bits and bytes. The algorithm does not read my scrawl'd letters right.
Below is the draft of the poem with changes noted, written on my tablet with a stylist. I like to see how other writers process and edit their works, mulling word choice, rephrasing lines, and working on the syllables. (This is why I like Envelope Poems by Emily Dickinson). Seeing how others work their craft helps me better my own.
Do you have the same struggle I have?
In what medium do you write? Digital or analog? Or do you prefer the keyboard?
I was contemplating this just yesterday! I think paper would be better. Then type it up after if I want to share it on Substack.
